Blog Hop with Papertrey

It's that time again - Blog Hop with Papertrey!

This month's challenge was to make something using YELLOW. I had started to do a Mojo Monday sketch a couple of weeks ago then changed it up and then work got the best of me and I never finished my first try. Well it just so happens I had started with yellow - so I finished it up and here's what I came up with. Being from Chicago we get rain in spring AND summer so even though the yellow evokes feelings of summer - a bit of rain is bound to fall. I love the sentiment and the umbrella from Scattered Showers - made a perfect pair for this cheerful card. For papers I chose Ripe Avocado as my accent color then worked with Lemon Tart and Summer Sunrise. You can't see it very well but I used my versamark pad and one of the small flourishes in the new Fancy Flourishes set to make a subtle background paper in the yellows. Cuttlebugged the 2nd layer for texture then paper pieced the umbrella. Added a couple of prima flowers and some yellow dew drops for my final touches. Can't wait to see what everyone else came up with. Have a great week!

My Time to Create Challenge SS32

I'm so humbled to have been selected as one of the new design team members for the My Time to Create Challenges hosted by the amazing Lauren Meader!!!!! It's truly an honor and I hope I will prove to be worthy. It's my first Design Team assignment so I'm a wee bit scared/nervous/excited/happy.... :-) I hope you will come play with us - be sure to use the keyword mytimess32 and post up with the Mr. Linky on Lauren's blog. Our first challenge as a new design team was this week's Saturday Sketch. I knew I wanted to play with my newest set from Papertrey Ink, Dawn McVey's Scattered Showers. Here's the card I created for the sketch. This is a huge BIRTHDAY WISH for one very special woman - and that woman is the one, the only Lauren Meader herself - BIG shout out of birthday wishes to Lauren. :-)

I started with PTI's Aqua Mist and Ripe Avocado Bitty Dot paper then paper pieced the umbrella (it's SO perfect for this technique). I used the duck from Bitty Baby Blessings, and paper pieced her with Lemon Tart Bitty Dot paper. I chose PTI's Lemon Tart ribbon as my second accent color to go along with the little yellow duck. The grass and flowers are from the With Sympathy set. The rain drops were made with one of my copic markers. (There is a little rain drop image in the stamp set but I've been using a marker for rain for a long time and forgot - oops!)

One thing I absolutely ADORE about PTI is my ability to mix and match pieces of different stamp sets. For this card I actually used images or sentiments from FIVE different sets. :-) The paper flowers are from Michaels and they just happened to coordinate with my chosen colors! I added pearl accent centers for a soft look.

Although I don't get a chance to do it with every card I make, I like to decorate the inside to be special, too and I almost always make some kind of matching envie, too.

I know that square cards cost more in postage but when the card works up to be it's best as a square then I figure the extra few cents of postage is well worth the smile it will bring to the recipient's face.

Thanks for playing - can't wait to see what all of you come up with this week. (Remember keyword mytimess32)

Now - scoot over to the other DT members and see what each of them has cooked up for you as well and one final HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAUREN! You rock - celebrate and enjoy. Hugs n smiles.
