Flower Power!

Hold on to your hats ladies - (it's been WINDY here in Chicago this week so that phrase has lots of meaning!) - Dana from Just Us Girls has a WOW challenge for you today. Your challenge is to create a handmade, burnt-edge fabric flower and she's providing this link to a WOWZA tutorial. Now... I will tell you at first the whole idea of a BURNED edge kind of had me imagining all kinds of disasters in my room filled with PAPER and RIBBONS and STAMPS (oh my!) but then I thought "Oh what the heck. That's why they are called challenges!" so I jumped in and did it and boy was I happy with the results. I'm SO glad I tried this - nothing caught on fire and I didn't get burned. :-) Thank you Dana!!! This was fabulous fun.

You take a look and you tell me if you think it was worth it... Here's my finished flower...

I made this from a piece of beautiful yellow fabric I happened to have on hand. I cut and burned then assembled 8 fabric layers,  used a pearl brad as my center and then... (sneak peek)... I made some beautiful leaves (coming to you on Nov 1 from My Time Made Easy) to tuck behind the flower.  I ran the leaves through my crimper and then scored the center line for some texture.

Here's the card I made to show off this flower. It's a special BIRTHDAY card because next week is sweet Kristin's birthday so the JUGS team is adding a twist to our challenge and we all made Kristin a birthday card. Please pop over and wish her a Happy Birthday when you are done here.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Kristin!! Enjoy your day girl - you deserve all the best that life has to offer.

This is an oversized card - it's 4.5 x 6.5 but since it will go in a non-standard padded envelope I didn't mind. I thought the larger size better suited my flower. I used two SU papers I had on hand and cut a strip of coordinating CS that features two different border punches and covered that with a strip of ivory lace.

The tag was made by combing three nestie layers - the bottom green one is a Labels 10, the middle layer is a Labels 14 and the top layer is another Layer 10. I enjoy combining different shapes of nesties for these.

One final look then I'd love for you to stop by Selma's blog and check out her final project with JUGS. She has done an outstanding job with the team this month so I'd be ever so grateful if you leave her a little love.

Check out the rest of the Design Team (sidebar -->) you must check out these fabulous flowers then PLEASE - be brave - give it a try. I would LOVE to see your flowers. Thanks, as always, for stopping by. Your sweet comments are always so inspiring and they truly lift my spirit :-)

Have a great weekend. Hugs n Smiles.

Hi Pam. I'm glad you tried the challenge too. Your yellow rose is beautiful and as usual your card is gorgeous. Like you I was wondering about how dangerous burning fabric might be but this was so easy and lots of fun to learn something new. I love the way you layered all the Nesties under the greeting. Thanks for inviting me to join you in the challenges this month. It has been a lot of fun.

I love the fabric flower! After seeing how expensive the fabric flowers were at a craft fair this weekend, I can't wait to make my own. Perhaps you'd like to make yours removable next time so your recipient can enjoy it over and over as a brooch or hair accessory? Just a thought!
