Little Cabin in the Woods

Be sure you read to the bottom - there is something extra extra special there! *wink*
Good morning! I have another template for you today (are you surprised!?!) I am having SO much fun with all of these fabulous new templates from Lauren Meader and My Time Made Easy. I can't seem to stop! I was thinking about an upcoming birthday for a friend - and the perfect idea popped into my head. He owns a little cabin in the woods so I used the new Welcome Home template to make him a little log cabin package for his birthday gift.

I started with yummy cardstock from Couture Cardstock - this is called Brown Paper Packaging. It has some texture already and all I did after cutting with my Cricut was to score the front, back, and sides of the house with my Scor-Pal. I also chose to add the optional roof to my cabin and I scored the darker Chocolate Chip paper on the roof as well. I then dragged my vintage Chai ink pad across all the pieces to accent the scoring. It looked GREAT when it was damp but by the time I was done the ink had faded and wasn't so prominent. I guess next time I'll experiment with regular ink. BUT I still have the scoring texture and I think it sort of looks like logs.

I also added some fun details to the door and windows.

I scored the door both vertically and horizontally - added some copper brads as "hardware". For the windows I adhered each one to small pieces of a fun leafy cotton fabric I had on hand.  I adhered the windows and door using dimensionals. To create the double window on the front I used my Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) software. I opened the file and copied and pasted two more windows. I dragged one of the windows so it was overlapping the other one then I chose the WELD option - it made the two windows into ONE. Now THAT was super cool. :-)  Check out CandaCrafts if you own a Cricut - you must have SCAL as well and it's on sale this week! Code is Feb14.

I wanted some dimension on the chimney so I simply scored both chimneys to give them a little texture - a small detail but it's the little details that bring it all together I think.  Next up was the matching tag:

I cut my tags from the Cricut cartridge that came with my Expression. I cut the bottom tag as "shadow" and the top layer the same size without the shadow and they mat together just right! I used a couple of SU stamps of pine leaves and pine cone plus a little circle sentiment "It's Your Day". Added one of the matching copper brads to this - wrote my simple wishes on the back so I didn't need a matching card for this gift box.

This little box is a great size - I could have resized it with the SCAL software but I didn't need to - I just cut it in it's original size which was PERFECT for this little jar of Sweet Pepper JalapeƱo Jelly. I made a little matching tag for the jar as well.

Here's one final peek at the jar of jam tucked inside this little log cabin gift package:

SO - there you go! In order to hold it all together for gift giving I tied it all together with a bit of rustic twine and tied a couple of twine bows on top. No ribbon or flowers on this one, not too frilly but keeping with the rustic, outdoor theme. I hope you enjoyed this little cabin in the woods :-) I had a blast making it and I know my friend will FLIP when he gets it. He will know it a heartbeat that it was based on his cabin in the woods and he will be tickled.

I am so happy to see a more masculine project! I have tons of "guy" B-days around this time of year and no ideas (until now). The texture on the house is a great touch.

Andrea said...

AWESOMNESS in a box!! Love Love Love this - You did a great job with a masculine project. Often masculine just means different colors (no pink) and less stuff (no flowers). Not today - from the beginning you created a simple classy gift! I have to say the scoring detail on today's project is my fav of what you've posted this week - but thats just cuz y'all are "mean" and only let me pick one cuz I loved your projects!

But I must say I truly love your springtime mailbox- I was noticing how this mailbox can be so versatile for all the seasons from valentines, to muffins, to breads/candies inside it. I love it. I just found this company and look forward to seeing everything and would love to join the contest, noting I am on vacation till the 15th but will check back then to see if I win. :)

What a great project! I love your log cabin and all the texture you added! That jam looks super yummy and so beautifully wrapped!

I love the cabin! I am always looking for a "manly" paper craft, and this is so creative! I love the details on the windows.
