Yikes - this is harder than I thought!

I am pretty darn tech saavy but I've never used blogger before. It's a wee bit harder than I thought - where do folks get all those cute headers and photos etc?!? For now I'll settle for the built in template but I can tell this will take some time to get it the way I want.
